Objectives:
1. Introduction of high yielding nutritious fodder varieties with improved
technology
2. Farm demonstration as well as demonstration programmes in farmers’
fields
3. Training of farmers and field level officers of the State in the region
4. Production of breeder, foundation and certified seeds of high yielding
varieties of different fodder crops, grasses and legumes
5. Assisting the state governments of the region in maximizing their
fodder seed production for distribution among the farming community.
6. Introduction of fodder crops in the existing crop rotations of the
region to increase production per unit land per year.
7. Development of silvipasture system and demonstration of improvement and
management of village grazing lands and natural grasslands.
8. Evolution of fodder calendar suitable to agroclimatic region.
9. Performance testing of new varieties of fodder crops and grasses
Implementing Agencies: Regional Stations for Forage Production and
Demonstration and Central Fodder Seed Production Organizations are
subordinate offices under the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying
& Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture

Regional Stations for Forage Production and Demonstrations and Central
Fodder Seed Production are being operated by this Department in different
agro-climatic conditions for seed production of improved varieties of
fodder crops to cater to the needs of the farmers of the respective
regions. The State Animal Husbandry Departments and local farmers can
contact these fodder stations for any information related to fodder
production and fodder seed production.
